Capitalism is generally considered the best societal approach. Like every approach, it has good and bad points. Historically, one of the definite bad characteristics was the treatment of workers. This was specifically true for health and work standards. Workers that were injured on the job had no redress and no real options.

Much of this changed in the early 1970s with the formation of the Occupational Health and Safety Administration during the Nixon Administration of all things! This agency, better known as OSHA, set forth standards for workers safety. Subsequent legislation created options for injured workers, which created the field of occupational therapists. There are actually non-OSHA oriented fields for these therapists, but most fall within its greater scope.

The world of OSHA, the laws it enforces and the role of occupational therapists is a complex one. Hey, it’s a government agency! What did you expect? Red tape rules the day, so we’ve created an OSHA section to help educate you on various issues. Here are the latest additions:
